Coen ter Wal (AFME)

Coen ter Wal is Director and Head of Technology and Operations at the Association for Financial Markets in Europe (AFME), which represents the wholesale financial markets in Europe. In his division, he is leading the areas of AI, data, DLT, cyber and operational resilience, and operational efficiency in capital markets.
Prior to joining AFME, Coen was a Senior Tech Policy Advisor at the Netherlands Central Bank (DNB), where he lead DNB’s policy work on innovations in crypto & DLT, Open Finance, operational resilience (DORA) and the Digital Finance Strategy. From 2019 to 2020, Coen was seconded as a Financial Attaché to the Netherlands Permanent Representation to the EU where he was responsible for Fintech, Crypto Assets, Cyber Resilience and many other topics. He has his Master’s degree in in Political Economy from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), as well as two executive programs in FinTech and Information Technology.
